NASPE Standard 5: Impact on Student Learning
Physical Education teacher candidates utilize assessments and reflection to foster student learning and inform instructional decisions.
Reflection:
EDU 455: During Christie's first student teaching placement at Taft Elementary School in Washingtonville, New York, she developed pre, post and formative assessments for dribbling a soccer ball. The assessments allowed her as a teacher to recognize what skill level her students were at, as well as develop a block plan which was appropriate for the grade and skill levels of the students. Her assessments included psychomotor, cognitive and affective assessments, both informal and formal. During her post-assessment reviews, she was able to see what lessons and activities worked with the students to better perfect their dribbling skills as well as show her what areas in the lessons need to be adjusted for future classes. Not only are these all important factors in the assessment process, but she was able to see the success in the student's ability to dribble a soccer ball when comparing the data from the first assessment.
